As the capital prepares for its hottest day of the year, the Port of London Authority (PLA) has issued a reminder not to underestimate the powers of the tidal River Thames.

A partnership to promote the highest safety standards for all boat operators on the tidal Thames has been launched by the Company of Waterman & Lighterman and the Port of London Authority (PLA).

Work to dismantle and remove the old West Street Pier in Gravesend is well underway. The pier was used for a number of years by passengers of the Gravesend – Tilbury ferry. But in 2012 the ferry moved to the renovated Town Pier.

A Kent man who recklessly jet skied at speed along the Thames towards central London last summer has been successfully prosecuted at Westminster Magistrates Court (10 April 2019).
