Cefas workshop: Action level review

This virtual Cefas workshop will allow stakeholders to look at the Action Level review, and input into the new Action Level Review framework being developed.

When: 12 March 2021 between 13:00-16:00

The Action Levels Review Project Final Report led by Cefas on behalf of Defra is now available on Action Level Review Report.

Various different scenarios have been assessed to determine potential impact of changes to the current action levels as one line of evidence to assess the quality of dredge sediment for disposal at sea. The current action levels were originally devised in 1995 and used ever since to evaluate the contamination status of dredge sediment prior to licensing for disposal at sea.

The report includes a summary of background to the proposed scenarios and what the predicted outcomes will be, and the proposed action levels.

This is your opportunity to engage in the next steps with this project which is now aiming to provide a dredge sediment management framework to stakeholders, which will include plans on how to implement these proposed action levels in the future, ensuring environmental protection is in line with our international obligations, such as those set by OSPAR. Cefas are keen to understand economic implications at Action Level changes as part of this framework development.

This workshop will be delivered by Claire Mason (Cefas – Action Level Review project lead), Jemma Lonsdale (Cefas) and George Willmore (Defra), and is hosted by myself from the PLA.
