Our annual environment conference is this year being delivered as a series of three webinars, running on consecutive days from 16 to 18 March 2021 and hosted and moderated by Tanya Ferry, the PLA's head of environment.

Each day will have a different theme – sustainability, innovation & change and habitats – together giving delegates a broad insight into developments in the marine sector and on the Thames in particular.

  Tanya Ferry
Tanya Ferry is the head of environment at the Port of London Authority and advises on the coordination and implementation of the PLA’s environmental work, statutory protection and improvements throughout the tidal River Thames. She has worked at the Port of London for nine years and has worked on the Thames in previous Environment Agency roles.

Confirmed speakers

  Alex McGoran
Alex McGoran (she/her) is a London NERC DTP PhD student researching microplastic contamination in the Thames food web at Natural History Museum and Royal Holloway University of London. Alex has investigated microplastic ingestion in the Thames for six years and has found that fish in the estuary readily consume microplastics. Her recent research explores additional levels of the food web, such as seals and amphipods, seeking to determine whether plastic can be transferred from prey to predator. Alex can be found on Twitter @AlexMcGoran.
  Molly Tucker
Since joining the PLA as an environment intern in 2017, Molly has progressed within the company and now works as the Technical Advisor for Ecology. Using her BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology she drives the PLA’s work in environmental improvements for both ecology and biodiversity. As part of this role, she is currently leading the exciting project to improve saltmarsh habitat at the West Thurrock Lagoon and Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest, and she will be presenting on this project as part of this webinar.

Details of confirmed speakers for the three webinars will be added to this webpage, so please check back for updates.
