Thames Lens 2016 photography competition winners announced

Totally Thames in partnership with the Port of London Authority (PLA) are proud to announce 2016 Thames Lens photography winners.

Now in its 12th year, the competition was open to non-professional photographers.

Entrants were asked to submit photographs that captured the vibrancy and distinctiveness of the River Thames and were judged by a panel from the Thames Festival Trust and Port of London Authority alongside the London Photo Festival. From over 250 entries received, we can now announce that the 2016 winners are:

  • Thames Lens 2016 Winner goes to Cairis Grant-Hickey for Dare you! taken along the Thames footpath between Woolwich and the Greenwich peninsula.

  • Thames Lens 2016 Runner-up goes to Peter Murrell’s The Tour Bus taken at Tower Bridge.

  • Port of London Authority Winner is awarded to John Clare for his Paddles Ahoy! taken at Kew Bridge at this year’s TideFest.

  • London Photo Festival Highly Commended goes to Bubble Fun by Britta Baumann taken along Bankside.

Adrian Evans, totally Thames director said “We wanted photographers to reflect on the Thames and its many narratives and visual facets. Thames Lens is a unique opportunity for photographers to convey the vibrancy and ever-changing character of the River Thames and this year’s 258 entries certainly do that! It was a real challenge to select the winners but we think they all offer unique perspectives on the River Thames.”

Alistair Gale, PLA director of corporate affairs said “We are pleased to support Totally Thames bringing people back to the river through arts and cultural activities. The submissions to this year’s Thames Lens competition show the incredible beauty and the varied uses of the Thames. From art and architectural delight to the diversity of activities on the river: paddling sports and sailing; moving building materials for a growing capital city and using it to get to work.”

The winning prizes include: The View from The Shard tickets, Wildlife Photography Course with Iain Green at the WWT London Wetland Centre, Abitoffthemapp Camera Bags, London Photo Festival tickets and a subscription to Amateur Photographer Magazine.
