Thames AIS Byelaws await confirmation by Secretary of State

Following an extensive public consultation, the Thames AIS Byelaws 2006 were made by the PLA on 23 June 2006 and, having been subsequently promulgated by letter and in the national and local press, now await confirmation by the Secretary of State at the Department for Transport.

Once the Byelaws have been confirmed, the PLA will seek expressions of interest from suppliers to meet the specification and to explore options for provision of equipment to vessels which will be required to carry the equipment under the provisions of the Byelaws as well as the Authority's own vessels. The date for mandatory carriage will be 1 June 2007.
