Port resumes tree works

The Port of London Authority will be carrying out the following work on the towpath between Hammersmith and Barnes this month as part of its ongoing programme of tree management.

Revetment

Various works (in accordance with the PLA's Towpath Tree Management Plan) on the revetment wall from Small Profits Drawdock downstream to the second set of stairs (about 300 metres). Two contractors will commence work on 15 February which is expected to continue for approximately two weeks. There may be some minor and temporary closures of the towpath whilst these works are in progress, although these will be kept to a minimum.

Completion of urgent works

Work on trees identified in the PLA's Towpath Tree Management Plan as requiring urgent attention but which could not be undertaken last year due to environmental constraints (primarily nesting birds). Subject to the results of an ecological survey, pollarding will be carried out on trees in front of St Paul's School, and a tree will be felled near Leg O' Mutton reservoir.

Planting

Areas designated for planting will be prepared over the next few weeks with planting taking a further two weeks. Again, there may be some disruption to the towpath during these works, but it will be kept to a minimum.
