Port of London Authority's Annual Forum Open to All

The Port of London Authority (PLA) has announced that anyone with an interest in the tidal Thames will be able to attend its Annual Stakeholder Forum this year.

The Forum will be held in the Millbank area at 2.30 pm on Tuesday, 19 May. The PLA’s equivalent to an annual general meeting, the Forum has previously been open to invited representatives of stakeholder groups, but now is open to all.

PLA chief executive, Robin Mortimer, explains:

“We run the river in trust for future generations, so it’s only right that our Forum is open to anyone to attend. This year’s Forum is set to be particularly interesting as we look at how use of the river has grown over the last year and look at plans for the future - developing a Vision for the tidal Thames.”

River highlights of 2014 included increasing river use across port trade, passenger trips and inland waterways freight. Meanwhile, the PLA’s new mooring maintenance ship, London Titan has been launched and a new HR strategy, Our PLA, introduced.

Anyone who wishes to attend the Forum can register, receive full venue and event details by contacting the PLA (email: [email protected], or call: 01474-562364).

Notes:

The PLA oversees navigational safety and river operations on 95 miles of the tidal Thames from Teddington Lock, through the capital, and out to the sea.

The tidal Thames is one of the UK’s busiest waterspaces, home to:

  • The country’s second biggest port by tonnage of goods handled;
  • Busiest inland waterway for passengers and freight;
  • Centre for sporting excellence; and
  • A venue for global events including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee River Pageant
