PLA Launches New Films and the Tidal Thames Navigators' Club
Two new films and a special club for recreational boaters using the tidal Thames have been launched by the Port of London Authority (PLA) as part of its continuing work to help leisure boaters make the most of the UK’s most famous river in safety.
The new films give navigators on the Thames a simple guide to making the passage from the estuary to the Thames Barrier safely. They follow the format of two films launched in 2010 which show how to navigate on the particularly complex and busy section of the river between Tower Bridge and Westminster.
The PLA has also launched the ‘Tidal Thames Navigators’ Club’ to give boaters river information tailored to supporting their safe navigation on the river. Other benefits of joining the Club include free copies of the PLA’s annual Tide Tables and Port Information Guide, the increasingly popular Recreational Users Guide for the Thames and the PLA magazine, Tidal Thames, posted direct to members’ homes.
You can join the Club via a special section on the PLA’s dedicated recreational users’ website: www.boatingonthethames.co.uk which the port authority created and launched in 2010.
“The Navigator’s Club and new films are all about providing specific information and advice, in one place, to recreational boaters, and thereby supporting their safe use of the river,” explained PLA chief harbour master, David Phillips. “It’s a two pronged approach. Joining the Club and telling us how you use the river will enable us to improve the service we provide. And before you set off you can watch the films for a quick and easy reminder of what to be ready for, as a complement to your normal passage planning.
“Make no mistake, this is a challenging river to navigate, but with careful planning and the right equipment it’s also an environment that leisure boaters can enjoy.”
