The Port of London Authority (PLA) has appointed Chris McQueen harbour master for its lower district, which covers the Thames from Margaretness (just down river of the Thames Barrier) to the Estuary.

The Port of London is the UK’s second largest port, handling over 49 million tonnes of cargo every year.  The majority of the commercial operations on the river are concentrated in the PLA’s lower district, which is also home to thriving fishing, sports and leisure communities.

Chris McQueen has worked for the PLA for 22 years, in a variety of roles including dock master, pilot, in port control and, latterly, as deputy harbour master (lower)

Chris takes over from Roy Stanbrook who had been harbour master (lower) since 2007.  Roy recently left the PLA to take up the position of chief executive officer and captain of the Port of Gibraltar.
