Museum of London Docklands in exciting partnership with Citi

Museum of London Media Release

This September saw the launch of a brand new partnership between Museum of London Docklands and Citi; the major American financial services company. A new scheme called 'Money makes the world go around' has been set up in conjunction with the Learning department at the Museum to help young people understand finance.

The Citi-funded year-long scheme invites local schools to make use of a free learning day and a variety of online resources that are being specifically created for this project to go live online in Spring 2010. The learning day is packed with activities including an enterprise challenge to plan and cost a corporate event to be held at the Museum. The students get to meet a character actor playing the son of a local docker who became a millionaire, and learn about his plight as a speculator in the 1980's. Students also get to carry out independent work in the Museum galleries and have a tour of the nearby Citi office at Canary Wharf, where students can talk to and learn about Citi staff and their roles.

Lucie Parkes, Secondary Schools Officer at Museum of London, said "The 'Money makes the world go around' study day offers a rare opportunity to bring the world of finance to life for school pupils. It's a fantastic chance for students of all abilities to acquire vital knowledge about such a topical, and often inaccessible, world in a fun and practical way."

The 'Money makes the world go round' scheme will run from October 2009. Many of the places have already been filled by local school groups.
