Mule Takes the Strain for the PLA

PLA reduce operational impact with Kawasaki Mule

The Port of London Authority (PLA) is swapping diesel vans for the lightweight Kawasaki Mule utility vehicles, in a trial that is expected to reduce operational emissions and fuel use.

The PLA’s Marine Services base at Denton can be busy with marine engineers running essential people, tools and supplies back and forth from the stores to the jetty as they maintain and repair the Authority’s fleet of 35 boats.

If the trial of the Kawasaki Mule with its 500cc petrol engine is successful, another will be ordered, which will see large diesel vans only needed for moving large parts, like engines.

Dave Fallows, PLA mechanical and electrical engineer said: “Our team is determined to drive down our operational impact and contribute to improving air quality. The Mule is a light weight, but durable vehicle which is expected to be suitable for 50% of our transport jobs.”
