Countdown to 2012

Media release from the Waterfront Conference Company, in association with Bisham Consulting:

Countdown to 2012 - Planning for Success

On 26 and 27 March in central London, the Waterfront Conference Company, in association with Bisham Consulting, presents a Forum to debate the logistics of servicing the major infrastructure projects planned for London 2012, the ongoing regeneration of east London and development of the Thames Gateway. The objective of the Forum is to kick-start the logistics countdown to 2012 whilst there is still time to develop an effective and integrated plan for construction and consumables logistics.

This unique Forum will bring together key public and private sector stakeholders who will be responsible for completing critical and time dependent projects. Road, rail and water transport modes will be on the agenda and the aim is to ensure facilitated networking opportunities rather than the usual conference format. The Forum will cover topics as diverse as M25 and urban consolidation centres, night-time lorry bans, red routes, toll-charging, rail and water links.

A positive interface will be encouraged between the public and private sector with both parties being helped to understand the environmental and social problems that will be associated with the movement of freight and heavy construction machinery across a crowded and already congested city.

The Forum will feature contributions from stakeholders including the Olympics Delivery Authority, Transport for London and Network Rail. The second day will include the experiences of the logistics directors responsible for the Sydney and Athens Olympics, the forthcoming Beijing Olympics and BAA’s Heathrow Terminal 5.

Apart from support and endorsement from many appropriate industry organisations, the Forum is sponsored by Gifford, Wolseley UK, PalletForce, DHL Exel Supply Chain, Wincanton and TfL’s Freight Unit.

The varied and distinguished gathering of speakers and contributors from logistics, transport, construction companies, consultancies and professional organisations together with specially invited guests will make this innovative and exciting event an occasion not to be missed.

Neil Middleton, Director of Bisham Consulting says: "As experienced operators, we appreciate the enormous scale of the logistics challenges ahead and the time it takes to put an effective logistics infrastructure in place. The Forum is a cross-industry and non-partisan event which provides the public and private sectors with an opportunity to develop practical logistics solutions right from the start."
