New structure for PLA Harbour Master's team

The Port of London Authority’s Harbour Master’s team has been restructured to create a more flexible, efficient and resilient group covering the ‘whole river’, replacing the historic approach which split the river into two areas.

The upper, middle and lower districts for communicating navigational information, including Vessel Traffic Services, Notice to Mariners will continue to be used. The districts cover:

  • Upper – Teddington Lock to Putney
  • Middle – Putney to Crossness
  • Lower – Crossness to the port’s outer limits

A Harbour Master presence will be retained in the PLA’s London office, Pinnacle House, and several of the team will be based there, although there will be greater flexibility, with coverage along the river provided by all team members.

Individuals’ telephone numbers and email addresses are unchanged and the generic Upper District ([email protected]) and Lower District ([email protected]) email addresses remain in use.

The organisational chart below shows the new structure which was put in place on the 1 September 2020.
