There will be two Doggett’s Coat and Badge Races in 2021, following the postponement of last year’s event due to the pandemic.

Four contenders, including the 2019 runner-up James Berry, are in the running for the 2020 catch up race, due to be held on 25 June.

The 2021 race will be staged on 8 September, coinciding once again with the month-long Totally Thames festival.

Race umpire Bob Prentice said: “It was a big disappointment for all concerned that for the first time since the war, last year’s race had to be postponed.

“The good news is that, as long as COVID-19 restrictions allow, we are on for a double dose of races in 2021 to make up.”
