On the second day of Maritime Safety Week 2023, the Port of London Authority (PLA) is taking a lead in creating a positive safety culture, announcing its latest safety campaign, Watch Your Wash, to increase awareness of the potential risks of vessel wash and draw-off on river users along the tidal Thames.

Having launched a successful safe access initiative in February this year, Safe Boarding Week, the Port of London Authority (PLA) has welcomed the news that Navigator Thames has commenced work today (3 July), at the start of Maritime Safety Week 2023, to improve safe access at their West Thurrock bulk liquid terminal on the tidal Thames, the UK’s largest, by throughput volume.

Coinciding with World Hydrography Day (21 June), the Maritime Minister, Baroness Vere of Norbiton, officially named the first fully-electric, remotely operated survey vessel of any UK port, UCL Tamesis.

In a first for UK ports, the Port of London Authority (PLA) and University College of London (UCL) have launched a fully electric, remotely operated survey vessel.

PDL Marine, a boat building and fabrication company, has signed a contract with the Port of London Authority to refit two of the organisation’s vessels that are used for hydrographic services.

PLA deputy harbour master Miles Featherstone, from Maidstone, is looking forward to overseeing our support for this year’s Boat Race on 26 March.

The Port of London Authority’s (PLA’s) first annual, week-long event ‘Safe Boarding Week’ has been a great success. The total number of inspections was 265, far exceeding the target of 200, and included gangways, ladders from berths, piers and linkspans, along the 95 miles of tidal Thames in the PLA’s jurisdiction.

The Port of London Authority has begun its first ever ‘Safe Boarding Week’ today (27 February), a seven-day safety initiative that is the first of its kind in Europe. ‘Safe Boarding Week’ aims to increase awareness of safe access to and from vessels along the 95 miles of the tidal Thames that is in the PLA’s jurisdiction.

The Port of London Authority, which oversees operations in the UK’s largest port, will launch ‘Safe Boarding Week’ this month, the first of its kind in Europe. The week-long safety initiative, from Monday 27 February to Sunday 5 March 2023, aims to increase awareness of safe access to and from vessels, and highlight the importance the PLA places on safety on the 95 miles of the tidal Thames that it manages.
