Port of London Authority Appoints New Chief Financial Officer

The Port of London Authority (PLA) has appointed Julie Tankard as chief financial officer and member of the PLA Board, succeeding Brian Chapman, who will be retiring after 16 years with the organisation.

Julie Tankard has worked at BT since 1999 in a variety of roles, most recently as director of group contract and commercial management, overseeing group wide contract and commercial management of BT’s largest customer contracts. Previously her roles at BT have included vice president commercial finance and head of finance global services.

Prior to joining BT, Julie held finance director roles at Racal Datacom and Unisys plc. She has also been a non executive director at Leeds & York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust since 2013.

PLA chairman, Christopher Rodrigues, said:

“We are delighted to have attracted Julie to the PLA and are looking forward to her joining the Board later this year. She joins us at an important time as we continue to drive implementation of the Thames Vision, the development framework for increasing use of the Thames over the next 20 years.

“Brian’s 16 years with the PLA have seen enormous change on the river, with the Thames now well established as the UK’s busiest inland waterway and able to handle the world’s largest container ships. He has made an enormous contribution to the PLA and the Thames; he will leave with our very deep thanks.”

Julie Tankard will join the PLA in early October and, after induction and handover will take up the CFO role from 1 November, when Brian Chapman will formally retire.
