Thames Barge Sailing Match

This match (or race) for historic Thames Sailing Barges is an annual event, the first of which took place in 1863. This makes it the world's second oldest organised sailing race after the America's Cup, which was first held 12 years earlier in 1851.

The Thames Barge Sailing Match is believed to be the longest running, regularly organised, national racing event for traditional sail in the world. This year’s event, held on Saturday, 13 July 2013, and marked the 150th running of the match. It was run for the first time over a course finishing at Erith.
