Great River Race 2015 - Safety Update

Due to deteriorating weather conditions (strong winds) causing large waves, we have had to cancel the participation of dragon boats in this year's race. Dragon boats have low sides, close to the water and are particularly vulnerable to taking on water in rough conditions.

The decision was taken in the light of our experience in 2009, when similarly poor weather resulted in 126 people, all from dragon boats, having to be rescued from the water. We understand this decision will be disappointing for the crews affected, but our priority is to make sure that competitors can take part in the race safely.
