Cory Riverside takes delivery of three new barges

CORY ENVIRONMENTAL PRESS RELEASE

Three new barges have been delivered to Cory Riverside. They will be used to transfer 200,000 tonnes per annum of Incinerator Bottom Ash from Cory’s Riverside Resource Recovery Energy from Waste facility, situated on the banks of the River Thames in the London Borough of Bexley.

By using the River Thames to transport the Bottom Ash, Cory will remove in excess of 25,000 lorry movements from London’s already congested highways. Sealed containers of ash will be loaded on to the barges, where they will be taken to a processing plant at the Port of Tilbury, operated by Ballast Phoenix, and turned into construction aggregate.

Neil Caborn, Cory’s General Manager said: ‘Compared to the existing fleet of waste barges, these new barges have been specifically designed for our Thames operation to carry heavier payloads of ash’.

Cory Riverside now boasts a fleet of five tugs, five new ash barges and 47 waste barges.
